Dental Exams in Moorestown, NJ A Careful Look, Not a Quick One

Most dental problems start small and do not hurt at first. A tiny cavity between two teeth. Gums that bleed a little when you floss. Wear on a tooth you did not even notice. Dr. Aliya Khan takes the time to find these things early  while they are still easy to fix.

No jargon, no pressure

What is a comprehensive exam?

A comprehensive exam is a 45-60 minute look at everything -- your teeth, gums, jaw, bite, and soft tissues. It includes X-rays, an oral cancer check, and a full plan for what your smile needs. It is the deeper visit we recommend once a year and for every new patient.

Why We Take Our Time

Most dental problems do not announce themselves. A cavity forming between two back teeth. Gums that have started to pull away from a tooth. A bite issue that will cause jaw pain a few years from now. By the time you feel that something is wrong, it usually is not small anymore.

A comprehensive exam is how we catch these things while they are still easy to fix. Dr. Khan looks at everything  not just where you are worried, but everywhere because she would rather find one small problem now than three big ones later. Regular exams also catch infections before they spread, help settle tooth pain, and keep you out of the chair for crowns, root canals, and extractions you did not need to have.

People worldwide dealing with dental problems

The World Health Organization says oral diseases affect nearly 3.7 billion people around the world. The most common one? Untreated cavities. And most of them started as tiny problems that could have been caught early.

What Happens During Your Exam

Here is what Dr. Khan will actually do during your visit  so you know what to expect:

We Get to Know You

A Careful Look

Dr. Khan examines every tooth, all the gums, your tongue, cheeks, and throat. Nothing is skipped.

Digital X-Rays

Quick, comfortable images that show things we cannot see with the eye  like cavities between teeth or bone loss.

Oral Cancer Check

Gum Check

We measure the little pockets around your teeth. Deeper pockets are the first sign of gum trouble.

Bite and Jaw Check

How your teeth come together, signs of grinding, and early hints of TMJ problems.

💡 The best part comes at the end

After the exam, Dr. Khan sits with you and talks through what she found. She shows you the X-rays, explains things in plain language, and gives you a clear plan. If nothing needs doing, she will tell you that too. No upselling, no scare tactics just an honest picture of where your smile stands.

First Visit or Yearly Visit?

Dr. Khan does comprehensive exams for two kinds of visits. Both are thorough  they just focus on different things:

New Patient Exam

Your first time with us. This is where Dr. Khan gets a full picture of your smile from scratch, and you get to see how we do things.

  • Full history and any past records
  • Complete set of X-rays
  • Careful look at every tooth
  • Oral cancer and gum checks
  • A plan you can take home with you
  • Plenty of time for questions

Annual Comprehensive Exam

Recommended once a year for existing patients, on top of your regular six-month cleanings. This is the deeper check-up.

  • Compare with last year’s findings
  • Updated X-rays if needed
  • Oral cancer and gum re-check
  • Bite, jaw, and wear review
  • Update your treatment plan
  • Talk through any new concerns

Signs You May Need a Crown or Bridge

Dr. Khan may recommend a crown or bridge if you have any of the following:

A small cavity now, not a root canal late

Early gum trouble reversed, before teeth get loose

Oral cancer found when it is still very treatable

Grinding damage spotted crowns before you need

Bite issues fixed before they turn into jaw pain

Infections handled before they spread

Old fillings replaced before decay grows underneath

Not sure when your last full exam was? Time to book one.

What Your Visit Looks Like

Here is how it goes from the moment you walk in:

We Say Hello

You get greeted, seated, and given time to settle in. Dr. Khan talks with you first what brings you in, any concerns, what has changed since your last visit.

Quick X-Rays

Digital X-rays are fast and use up to 90% less radiation than the old film kind. Images pop up on the screen right away.

The Full Look

Dr. Khan carefully checks every tooth, all your gums, and your soft tissues. She looks for cavities, cracks, gum issues, oral cancer signs, wear, and how your bite lines up.

The Conversation

You sit up, and she walks you through everything X-rays, findings, and what she recommends. You ask questions. You leave with a clear plan and a clear cost.

Why It Is Worth It

Saves You Money

A filling is cheaper than a crown. A crown is cheaper than an implant. Finding things early is almost always the cheapest path.

Keeps Your Teeth

Regular exams are the single biggest thing you can do to keep your own natural teeth for life.

Good for the Rest of You

Gum disease has been linked to heart trouble, diabetes, and stroke risk. Taking care of your mouth helps take care of you.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Khan reviews your health history, looks carefully at every tooth and all the soft tissues, takes digital X-rays if needed, checks your gums for early disease, screens for oral cancer, and looks at your bite. Then she sits with you and explains what she found.
Once a year is usually right, along with regular cleanings every six months. If you have had gum disease or other ongoing issues, you might need them more often.
Plan for 45 to 60 minutes, especially if you are a new patient. That gives us time to actually look carefully instead of rushing.
A regular check-up during a cleaning is a quick look usually 10 to 15 minutes. A comprehensive exam is the deeper visit where we look at everything, take X-rays, check for gum disease and oral cancer, and build a full plan for your care.
Most plans cover one comprehensive exam per year at 100%. We accept most major plans and will check your benefits before your visit so there are no surprises.
